Four Years Later, Still Choosing The Streetdog

Four years ago, when the Streetdog was still a new idea taking shape in our Wellington workshop, a group of early adopters took the chance and became the first cohort of riders to join the FTN Motion pack with their very own Streetdog. 

This month, one of those early adopters returned to FTN Motion to collect a brand new 4th generation Streetdog XR. In a fitting full-circle moment, they chose exactly the same colour as their original bike: classic red with a cream stripe.

At first glance, the two Streetdogs look remarkably similar. That is intentional. But beneath the familiar styling is four years of refinement, shaped by thousands of kilometres on New Zealand and Australian roads, hundreds of production bikes manufactured, and the experiences of the riders who have been part of the journey since the beginning.

Iterated from rider feedback

Designing the Streetdog didn't stop when those early adopters received their bikes. In many ways, that's where the real work began.

Over the past five years, every conversation with an owner, every service appointment, every weekend ride and every daily commute has helped us better understand how people use their Streetdogs.

Those insights have driven hundreds of small improvements. Some are immediately noticeable. Others are hidden beneath the panels incorporated in the technology that gives Streetdog it's special riding character. Together, they've made today's Streetdog a more refined, capable and enjoyable motorcycle than ever before.

The riding position has evolved. The suspension has been improved. Manufacturing processes have been refined. Components have been upgraded. Reliability has continued to improve, and we've expanded the range of accessories and customisation options so riders can tailor their Streetdog to suit their lifestyle.

Familiar by design

We often hear people say that the new Streetdog's still look like the original. We couldn't be happier to hear it.

Great design doesn't need to be reinvented every few years. It should evolve carefully, preserving what people love while continually improving the experience beneath the surface.

Seeing one of our earliest customers return and choose the same iconic red and cream colour scheme for their new XR felt like a reminder of that philosophy.

The spirit of the original Streetdog is still there. The iconic silhouette. The quiet ride. The responsive power. The original soul. It's simply become a better electric motorcycle.

Looking Ahead

Since introducing the XR a few months ago, around 100 more riders have already chosen the new generation Streetdog. For a small New Zealand company building premium electric motorcycles, that's something we're incredibly proud of.

But what means even more is seeing riders come back. From humble beginnings prototyping a beautiful concept to building premium electric motorcycles at scale we are incredibly proud of our journey so far.

When someone who believed in us from the very beginning decides to own another Streetdog, it tells us we're heading in the right direction.

To every rider who has supported FTN Motion since our very first bike took to the road, thank you. You've helped shape every improvement we've made. And while we're proud of how far the Streetdog has come, we're even more excited about where it's going next.
